About the Ruta de Pedra en Sec Trail
The GR221, other known as the Dry Stone Route or Ruta de Pedra en Sec, is a long-distance hiking trail that crosses the island of Mallorca (Spain). It stretches from Andratx in the south to Pollenca in the north, crossing the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Its name comes from the fact that a large section of it consists of cobblestone roads with stone fences on both sides. About 90% of the trail goes on public land and it's well-waymarked. However, about 10% of the trail goes through private lands, and there often are problems with some landowners who don't want hikers on their land. When hiking the GR221, you'll walk along countless olive fields, rocky mountains, authentic country landscapes, and historic towns.
