About the Machame Route Mount Kilimanjaro Trek
The Machame Route Mount Kilimanjaro Summit (Other called Whiskey Route) is the most popular trek that goes up to Mount Kilimanjaro (Uhuru) peak. There are several other routes to climb the peak, including Lemosho Route, Northern Circuit Route, Shira Route, Rongai Route, Marangu Route, and Umbwe Route. The Machame route is considered to be one of the more difficult of the routes due to steeper climbs, sleeping in tents instead of huts, and shorter acclimatization time. That said, it's also one of the most rewarding ones because it offers some pretty impressive vistas, diverse landscapes, and wildlife encounters. It starts at the Machame Gate (the South-West entrance to the Mount Kilimanjaro Natural Park), then climbs Mount Kilimanjaro from the east side, and finally heads back down to the southern exit - the Mweka Gate.
