About the George S. Mickelson Trail
The Mickelson Trail, other known as the George S. Mickelson Trail or simply MT, is a long-distance hiking, bikepacking, and horseback riding path. It's constructed on the old Burlington rail tracks, which were dismantled in the 1980s. This trail is named after George S. Mickelson - a governor who supported the construction of it. It's one of the most popular hiking trails in South Dakota and also one of the most popular multi-day bikepacking routes in the USA because most of the trail consists of good-quality gravel tracks with not so many steep or difficult sections. It stretches from Deadwood to Edgemont through South Dakota's Black Hills.
